25/5/25 - Spotted Grub and killed it ! The pot with something chewing the shoots....... Now I know why and what. Maybe something will recover but unlikely. If it hadn't been for the grub we would have had 80% success rate using this strange method of planting whole oranges with an egg. 4 out of the 6 pots have shoots growing. Bottom watered for 10 mins. |

10/5/25 - Shortly after germination moved pots off the ground where ants were making nests. Made covers out of garden plastic mesh to deter slugs, crickets and others from nibbling the shoots (one pot badly chewed may not recover) |

During the winter - (5 months) pots left in pouring rain and all elements nature could throw at them. The winter was exceptionally wet. As they had been utterly ignored including green mould growing on the oranges at one point it was a surprise they germinated. There's no remains of the original oranges just a very solid earth the shots have sprouted from. |
